[JURIST] Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff [Reuters profile] was removed from office [press release, in Portuguese] on Wednesday following a 61-81 Senate [official website, in Portuguese] vote in favor of impeachment. The impeachment trial lasted five days, including an overnight debate. While Rousseff was impeached, the Senate decided to allow her to run for public office in the future. Shortly after the decision, Rousseff took to Twitter [official profile, in Portuguese], proclaiming her innocence and describing the impeachment as a “coup,” saying that it was racist, misogynist and homophobic.
Vienna riots kill 89+
On July 15, 1927, a riot erupted in Vienna over the acquittal of three conservative paramilitary members accused of firing on a group of socialists, killing war veteran Matthias Csmarits and 8-year-old Josef Grössing. The riots resulted in the burning of Vienna's Palace of Justice, which is the seat of the country's Supreme Court, as well at least 89 deaths. Learn more from the city of Vienna.
