Trump administration issues executive order to eradicate ‘anti-Christian bias’

Trump administration issued an executive order on Thursday aimed at addressing government actions perceived as hostile to Christianity. The order asserts that previous government policies unfairly targeted Christian individuals and organizations.

The order establishes a task force for two years, chaired by the Attorney General, to review the activities of Biden’s administration and issue recommendations to the heads of federal departments to terminate or revoke any policies that target Christians unlawfully. The executive order also requires federal agencies to modify policies related to religious organizations, including education, employment and social services.

The order specifically cites the prosecution of “pro-life” demonstrators under the previous administration, instances of violence against churches, and a now-retracted FBI memorandum that labeled certain Catholic groups as potential domestic threats.

The order has drawn criticism from groups that argue it redefines religious freedom in a way that favors a specific faith over others. Americans United for Separation of Church and State contends that the task force distorts the long-standing principles of religious liberty by prioritizing Christianity in federal policy. In a statement, the organization’s president, Rachel Laser, claimed the initiative “will misuse religious freedom to justify bigotry, discrimination, and the subversion of our civil rights laws.” Laser further argued that the administration is aligning with Christian Nationalist ideology, using the task force as a means to reshape the nation along ultra-conservative religious lines.

The American Civil Liberties Union similarly stated, “As we saw in his last term, President Trump wants to eliminate the separation of church and state. Everyone has the right to religious freedom, not just the select few who practice this administration’s preferred brand of Christianity.”

The executive order follows the Trump administration’s repeal of a Biden-era policy that reinforced religious freedom protections for those using government-funded services like food banks and shelters.
