President Biden announces review on security measures following Trump assassination attempt

US President Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he ordered a review of the security measures for a rally in Pennsylvania where former President Donald Trump was injured and one spectator was killed.

Biden stated that the FBI is leading the investigation into the incident at the Pennsylvania rally, noting that it is in the early stages and that the White House currently lacks information about the shooter’s motive. The FBI identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old, as the person who attempted the assassination of former president Donald Trump. Simultaneously, Biden urged caution against making assumptions about the shooter’s motives or affiliations, emphasizing the need to await further details as the investigation progresses.

Additionally, Biden stated that he has directed the head of the Secret Service to conduct a thorough review of the security measures for the Republican Convention, set to commence on Monday, July 15.

Referring to the assassination attempt, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas stated that he briefed President Biden and that the Secret Service is working with law enforcement partners to respond to and investigate the shooting.

A spokesperson for the Secret Service denied claims that a member of the former President’s team had requested additional security resources and that these requests were denied, calling such assertions “absolutely false.” Instead, he asserted that protective resources, technology, and capabilities had been augmented in response to the increased campaign travel schedule.

President Trump was shot on Saturday during a rally in Pennsylvania, resulting in one fatality and two injuries. The shooter was killed by snipers. Following the incident, the Trump campaign emailed a statement to reporters confirming that Trump “is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility.”
