The US Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation continue to make arrests and file charges in relation to the January 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol Building by pro-Trump rioters.
Acting US Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen attended a briefing Thurday at the FBI’s Strategic Information and Operations Center, where he was brought up to date about the attack as well as about security preparations for next week’s presidential inauguration. He praised the efforts of all the federal, state, and local agencies involved in the investigations, stressing that those efforts “are continuing around the clock” and that the rioters would be held accountable for their actions. He also said there would be “no tolerance whatsoever” for any attempt to disrupt the inauguration.
The Justice Department has launched a special webpage listing all the defendants currently charged with crimes committed at the Capitol. Of the approximately 80 cases that have been charged to date, 51 have been added to the new website, and 34 arrests have been made so far. The site notes that while defendants must initially appear before a district court magistrate or judge in the state where they were arrested, the cases themselves will be prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
The FBI continues to call for tips from the public about the January 6 attack, with approximately 140,000 digital media tips received, many from friends, co-workers, and acquaintances of those alleged to be involved in the attack.
