US President-elect Joe Biden will appoint Merrick Garland as Attorney General, according to reports Wednesday.
Garland is a judge on the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. Then-president Barrack Obama had nominated Garland to the Supreme Court following the vacancy created by the death of Justice Antonin Scalia. Despite the nomination, Senate Republicans refused to grant Garland a confirmation hearing and instead confirmed President Donald Trump’s nomination of Neil Gorsuch.
Garland has recently been recusing himself from cases involving the federal government, with many observers speculating that he would be appointed Attorney General.
Biden will also reportedly name Lisa Monaco as deputy attorney general, Vanita Gupta as associate attorney general and Kristen Clarke as assistant attorney general for civil rights.
