Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard announced on Wednesday that the Atlanta police officer who shot Rayshard Brooks outside of a Wendy’s on Friday is being charged with felony murder and violating his oath of office.
Howard revealed that police officer Garrett Rolfe shot Rayshard Brooks twice in the back and kicked him in a Wendy’s parking lot. Rolfe was dismissed from his role the day after the incident and he now faces 11 charges including felony murder and assault with a deadly weapon. The other officer on the scene, Devin Brosnan, was also charged with aggravated assault.
The charges were brought against the ex-police officer following protests over police brutality and growing media attention in the US. Howard stated that Rolfe could face a life sentence or the death penalty.
