Kansas governor sues Republican lawmakers for revoking church gatherings order

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly sued her state’s legislative council Thursday due to their revocation of an executive order limiting church gatherings.

Kelly urged the judges to restore her executive order from Tuesday. The main portion of her legal argument rests on the unconstitutionality of the revocation. “The Kansas Constitution, Article 2, however, mandates that statutes only be amended by introduction of a bill, and presentment to the governor.”

The governor stated that the revocation would be detrimental to the health of Kansas citizens. The governor tweeted about the legislation on her personal page. The orders were aimed at preventing the spread of the coronavirus.
