Seattle and San Francisco ban large public gatherings in ongoing COVID-19 fight

Officials in Seattle and San Francisco announced Wednesday that they are banning large public gatherings in an attempt to halt the ongoing spread of COVID-19.

Governor Jay Inslee banned all gatherings and events of more than 250 people. The ban is specifically aimed at the King, Snohomish, and Pierce Counties for the month of March. Governor Inslee did suggest though that the ban may be extended beyond March in days to come.

Mayor London N. Breed of San Francisco has also announced a ban on all gatherings of 1,000 or more persons to combat the spread of COVID-19. The ban was announced in a press release and states that a Public Health Order will be issued by the Health Officer of the City and County of San Francisco for enforcement purposes. The ban will be in effect for two weeks, but can be reauthorized by the Health Officer.

More bans on travel and public gathering are likely to follow in the days and weeks to come.
