Trump asks Supreme Court to block House subpoenas from banks

US President Donald Trump on Friday requested that the Supreme Court bar the House of Representatives’ request for his financial documents from two banks. Trump argues that the subpoena goes beyond legislative power, and he therefore has a right to keep the documents private.

This is not Trump’s first request to bar subpoenas for financial records. On Thursday, Trump requested that the Supreme court bar the subpoena for his financial records issued to his personal accounting firm, Mazars USA.

Friday’s appeal will go to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who is responsible for emergency appeals from the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Ginsburg can either act on the appeal herself or refer it to the full court.
