US President Donald Trump on Thursday reversed the decision of the US Navy to remove Chief Petty Officer Edward Gallagher from the Navy SEALs. Trump announced the decision via Twitter:
The Navy will NOT be taking away Warfighter and Navy Seal Eddie Gallagher’s Trident Pin. This case was handled very badly from the beginning. Get back to business!

The move comes after Trump restored Gallagher to the title of Chief Petty Officer. Gallagher had been demoted pending his prosecution for alleged crimes while serving in Iraq. Gallagher was ultimately acquitted on all but one charge. While Gallagher was cleared of charges of murdering a captive and attempted murder of civilians, he was convicted of taking a photograph with a dead captive.
Trump’s decision will allow Gallagher to remain a member of the Navy SEALs.
