Democrats in the US House of Representatives released a resolution Tuesday detailing rules they intend to follow during the impeachment inquiry of President Donald Trump.
The resolution provides that House committees can continue their existing investigations into whether there is sufficient evidence to employ the Constitutional powers of impeachment. More specifically, the resolution outlines time limits permitted to question witnesses, the introduction of evidence, the issuance of subpoenas. In addition, the resolution gives House Democrats the power to control the impeachment proceedings, requiring House Republicans to seek approval of the Chair of the Intelligence Committee prior to issuing a subpoena. Lastly, the resolution states that the House Intelligence Committee will create a report detailing its findings from the impeachment proceedings and ultimately make the report public.
This resolution follows as both House and Senate Republicans have publicly criticized House Democrats for conducting impeachment proceedings behind closed doors.
The full House is expected to vote on the resolution on Thursday after House Rules Committee debates.
This resolution comes less than a week after Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi distributed a fact sheet, detailing President Trump’s misconduct while in office.
