Trump calls for stronger gun background checks after Ohio and Texas shootings

US President Donald Trump on Monday remarked on the recent shootings in Ohio and Texas, calling for reform in background checks for gun purchases.

First, he stated that there must be more efficient efforts for identifying early warning signs of potential mass shooters. Secondly, he stated that we must “stop the glorification of violence in our society,” speaking specifically to video game content that young people experience. Third, he stated that mental health reforms would help to identify potential killers and prevent further incidents of violence. Finally, he stated that those with a potential to pose “grave risk to public safety” should not have access to firearms.

In order to accomplish this goal he called for, what he called “red flag” laws, also known as extreme risk protection orders.
