Federal judge affirms New Jersey’s ban on 10-round gun magazines

US District Judge Peter Sheridan on Monday affirmed lower court’s ruling on a constitutional challenge to New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy’s ban on 10 round gun magazines.

Murphy signed the ban into effect in June 2018 in order to reduce the number of casualties in mass shootings. The Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs immediately filed a lawsuit challenging the ban’s constitutionality under the Second Amendment. Courts have continuously denied the plaintiff’s claims because the law does not limit an individual’s right to to possess a firearm or the amount of ammunition they can have.

Sheridan ultimately granted Attorney General Gurbir Grewal’s motion for summary judgment and that there were not any more issues of material fact that weren’t already addressed by the lower court’s precedent decision.
