Connecticut governor signs bill providing paid family and medical leave

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont signed a bill into law Tuesday that provides paid family and medical leave to workers in the state.

Under the new law, workers in Connecticut can take up to 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave. Workers in Connecticut can use this to care for a new child or to take care of a family member that has a serious illness. They will also be able to use this leave in order to take care of their own serious illnesses and “[t]o serve as an organ or bone marrow donor.”

The law applies to most workers in the state, including workers in the private sector as well as certain state and local government employees. The program will begin on January 1, 2022.
