Trump and family sue to prevent financial institutions from complying with congressional subpoena

US President Donald Trump, his family members and his businesses filed a complaint against Deutsche Bank and Capital One Financial Corporation Monday to prevent them from answering subpoenas issued by the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the House Financial Services Committee.

The Plaintiffs are Trump, his three oldest children, Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump and Ivanka Trump, and several businesses that use Deutsche Bank and Capital One financial services.

The complaint states that the subpoenas have “no legitimate or lawful purpose,” are intrusively overbroad and therefore an abuse of legislative power.

The complaint asks the court to “declare the subpoenas invalid and enjoin Defendants from complying with them” because the subpoenas “threaten to expose Plaintiffs’ confidential account information” and because they “violate the protections of RFPA.
