The US House of Representatives passed HR-1 Friday, dubbed the For the People Act, to “make it easier, not harder, to vote,” which overhauls a number of voting rules in campaign finance, access to voting, and ethics rules.
The bill contains provisions to update voter registration, including automatic voter registration, prohibiting deceptive practice and preventing voter intimidation, early voting, and voting by mail, redistricting reform, election security, and campaign finance transparency rules.
The bill states its purpose is “to expand Americans’ access to the ballot box, reduce the influence of big money in politics, and strengthen ethics rules for public servants, and for other purposes.”
The House voted along party lines, 234-193.
