The UN expert on foreign debt and human rights Juan Pablo Bohoslavsky, is stressing the necessity of treating human rights as a top priority in recent economic reforms.
After Bohoslavsky investigated in both Ukraine and Sri Lanka last year, his reports focused on the importance of striking a balance between implementing measures to ensure all human rights are recognized and fostering further economic development in these areas.
He stated that, “international human rights instruments are crucial as they help to ensure that major projects can lead to real benefits of the entire population.”
Bohoslavsky is set to report these findings, as well as the Guiding Principles on human rights impact assessment of economic reform policies, to the UN Human Rights Council on Thursday.
