Former Peruvian presidential candidate Keiko Fujimori was ordered Wednesday to be held in preventive detention for three years by the Peruvian National Criminal Court until the corruption probe into her party and her campaign is finished.
Fujimori had spent a week in police custody earlier in October before being released on appeal.
The judge from the National Criminal Court ruled that Fujimori and her political associates had attempted to obstruct the probe into the bribery of public officials by Brazilian Construction Company Odebrecht. The prosecutor were granted their request to imprison Fujimori during their investigation.
Fujimori is the daughter of former Peruvian dictator Alberto Fujimori. More recently she was defeated for a second time in the 2016 Peruvian Presidential Election by Pedro Pablo Kuczynski who ultimately resigned earlier this year in connection to the Obrecht corruption probe following multiple impeachment attempts.
