Judge orders Acosta’s White House credentials temporarily restored

Judge Timothy Kelly of the US District Court for the District of Columbia temporarily restored journalist Jim Acosta’s White House credentials on Friday.

CNN filed a lawsuit on Tuesday against US President Donald Trump and others after the administration revoked Acosta’s credentials following an incident at a post-election press conference.

Following a hearing on Wednesday, Kelly granted CNN’s request for emergency relief through a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction that immediately restored Acosta’s access. Kelly stated that the administration’s actions violated Acosta’s due process rights and agreed with CNN’s claim that Acosta suffered “irreparable harm” as a result.

Though Kelly has not yet ruled on the merits of the case, many news outlets view this injunction as a victory for the free press and an indicator that Kelly may ultimately decide in favor of CNN.
