California lawmakers on Wednesday sent [text] a bill to the governor that would raise the minimum age to purchase a gun from 18 to 21.
The bill “would prohibit the sale or transfer of any firearm by a licensed dealer, except as specifically exempted, to any person under 21 years of age.” Under the bill, people under 21 who are members of the military, police officers, or who have an active hunting license will be exempt.
The bill passed [text] 26-12 in the California Senate, and is now awaiting approval from the governor.
