[JURIST] The War Crimes Chamber [HRW backgrounder] of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina [official website] Tuesday indicted [press release; case materials] a Bosnian Serb ex-soldier for crimes against humanity allegedly committed against Muslims in the Bosnian war of the early 1990s. Miodrag Nikacevic is accused of raping two Muslim women in April and June 1992, and is also alleged to have participated in the abduction and unlawful detention of a Muslim civilian in the Foca Correctional Facility. Last month, the War Crimes Chamber convicted two former prison officials [JURIST report] for the systematic abuse of detainees at the Foca prison during the Bosnian war. The War Crimes Chamber was set up to alleviate the caseload of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia [official website], and will continue to hear cases as the ICTY winds down in 2010.
