[JURIST] The Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area (LCCR) [advocacy website] filed a lawsuit [complaint, PDF; press release, PDF] against the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) [official website] Wednesday requesting the public disclosure of a terrorist watch list containing more than 6,000 names. LCCR requested the document in 2005, and maintains that there is no legal basis for the Treasury Department to withhold the list. The government must file a response to the Freedom of Information Act [DOJ backgrounder] lawsuit within 30 days.
In March, the LCCR criticized [JURIST report] OFAC for the watch list, saying it resulted in discrimination by businesses and credit bureaus. AP has more.
