[JURIST] Australian Attorney General Philip Ruddock [official website] has again denied that David Hicks [JURIST news archive], an Australian national facing a US military tribunal on charges he fought for the Taliban, could be tried in Australian courts for the charges he faces. Ruddock Thursday dismissed a new analysis by George Williams [UNSW profile], law professor at the University of New South Wales, that suggested Hicks could face domestic charges based on the Fourth Geneva Convention, the Crimes Act, and the Foreign Incursions and Recruitment Act. Ruddock says Williams' report doesn't cover any new ground. Both Ruddock and Prime Minister John Howard remain confident in the US system [JURIST report] even as former US military prosecutors have strongly criticized the process [JURIST report].
