[JURIST] US Air Force General Richard Myers [official profile], Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has criticized an Amnesty International report [JURIST report] comparing American treatment of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay to the Soviet gulag [Wikipedia backgrounder] where millions died. Interviewed on Fox News Sunday [transcript], Gen. Myers called the report "absolutely irresponsible" and noted that 100 detainees abused out of 68,000 being held in the war on terror is "very small compared to the population of detainees we've handled." Amnesty has urged that senior US officials should be investigated by foreign governments and that Vice President Dick Cheney, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, and former CIA Director William Tenet be arrested and questioned.
