On November 11, 2006, the US vetoed a UN Security Council resolution condemning an Israeli attack on Beit Hanoun in the Gaza Strip and calling on Israel "to scrupulously abide by its obligations and responsibilities under the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War of 12 August 1949." The vote was 10-1, with the UK, Denmark, Japan, and Slovakia abstaining.
