The legal world is a busy place. Here are a few stories we didn’t get to this week that we thought you might be interested in.

• The 9th Circuit held [opinion, PDF] Monday that Montana’s statutory limits on campaign contributions were both justified by and appropriately tailored to goal of combatting corruption or its appearance, reversing the District Court’s judgment in favor of the law’s challengers.

• A jury at the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York [official website] on Monday found former HSBC executive Mark Johnson guilty of defrauding a client in connection with a $3.5 billion currency trade in 2011, capping off a trial that lasted nearly four weeks.

• Hearings began Tuesday in the UK Supreme Court [official website] on an attempt to expand abortion access in Northern Ireland, where abortion laws are more restrictive than the rest of the UK, to include cases of rape, incest or serious malformation of the fetus. Case materials are here.
