Hawaii files answer in revised travel ban lawsuit

[JURIST] The State of Hawaii filed its answer [text, PDF] as plaintiff with the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit [official website] on Friday in a lawsuit against the administration of President Donald Trump [official website], concerning Executive Order 13780 [text], also known as the “revised travel ban.” The state maintains that a preliminary injunction issued by the district court should be affirmed, arguing that the order is overstepping presidential authority. Trump appealed [JURIST report] after the district judge ruled [JURIST report] in favor of Hawaii in March.

Earlier this month the State of Hawaii asked [JURIST report] for the full appeals court to hear the case. In March the appeals court had ordered [JURIST report] an expedited schedule for the appeal. That same month a Washington federal judge refused to reinstate [JURIST report] his injunction on Trump’s original travel ban.
