BREAKING NEWS ~ Democrats to force delay in Alito confirmation vote Jeannie Shawl at 4:44 PM ET [JURIST] AP is reporting that Senate aides have said that Democrats will force a one-week delay in the Senate Judiciary Committee vote on the nomination of Samuel Alito [JURIST news archive] to the US Supreme Court. Confirmation hearings are set to begin Monday [JURIST report] and committee chairman Arlen Specter had hoped to hold a vote on whether to approve the nomination on January 17. According to Senate aides, Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid said Thursday that Democrats on the committee will invoke their right to delay the vote for one week. AP has more. Link |
