Saddam meets lawyer to prepare for war crimes trial Holly Manges Jones at 10:01 AM ET [JURIST] Saddam Hussein met with his Iraqi lawyer Khalil Dulaimi Monday, after Iraqi authorities announced that his first trial before the Iraqi Special Tribunal [official website] will begin on October 19 [JURIST report]. Hussein faces charges [JURIST report] for the 1982 massacre of over 140 Shiites following an assassination attempt on the former dictator's life. Members of Hussein's Jordan-based defense team have said the chosen date for his trial was "politically motivated" and will not give Dulaimi time to adequately prepare [JURIST report].
