Arroyo has faced accusations [JURIST news archive] that she rigged last year's election, condoned human rights violations and was involved in corruption. The legislature, which is dominated by Arroyo supporters, ignored warnings that the dismissal could lead to a "people power" revolt, like the ones that ousted two Philippine presidents in the last two decades.
