Former chess champ challenges Japanese deportation order Jeannie Shawl at 11:35 AM ET [JURIST] Lawyers for former US chess champion Bobby Fischer appeared in a Japanese court Tuesday in their latest effort to prevent Fischer's deportation to the US. Fischer is wanted in the US for playing a 1992 chess match in Yugoslavia in violation of international sanctions. Fischer's lawyers appeared in court briefly Tuesday to exchange evidence. The next court hearing in the case is scheduled for January. BBC News has more. Link |
