Senate Judiciary Committee approves three judicial nominees
Bernard Hibbitts at 8:47 PM ET

[JURIST] The Senate Judiciary Committee [official website] Thursday approved the nominations of Deborah Cook, John Roberts and Jay Bybee [DOJ nomination background] as new US Court of Appeals judges in a rancorous session during which Committee Chairman Senator Orrin Hatch overrode Committee rules to get a vote on Cook and Roberts over the objection of Democrats who wished to hold those two nominations in Committee. Read the opening statement of Ranking Democrat Senator Patrick Leahy. No statement or release on today's Committee vote is as yet available from Senator Hatch's office.
